It is with some mixed emotions that I must, at this time, offer at auction to the highest bidder my old, slightly tattered official 2003 Avril Lavigne tour t-shirt.
A sad but true story…
Description of item:
One black, medium sized, official, 2003 “Avril Rocks” tour shirt found second hand. Cool “AL 03” in red lettering on the front, “Avril Rocks” with picture of small rock star with a Fender Flying V guitar strapped across her shoulder on back.
Condition of item:
Missing sleeves and collar, small turmeric smudge on front.
Reason for selling:
AAAAAUUUUUUGGGGHHHHH! What have they done to Avril? OK, so I never had the first album but the live version of “Sk8ter Boi” from the first record that you can find on I-Tunes totally rocks. Not only that, but “Under My Skin” is a killer album. It is. It’s killer. “Take Me Away” opens the album with 2 minutes and fifty seven seconds of perfect pop rock. “Together”, “Don’t Tell Me”, “How Does It Feel”, “My Happy Ending”, and “Fall To Pieces” are all perfect as well. In fact, they’re great! I mean we are talking Avril Lavigne, OK, but Under My Skin is a really good record and I’ll back it up in an argument. Plus, Avril’s kindof cool. She’s certainly honest. Go over to Youtube and type in “Avril Cried” and watch her sing “Tomorrow” on the day her grandfather passed away. What you see is honest. She my be annoying, shallow, a bit of a poser (in an interview she was asked about punk rock and answered that she had an album by the Ramones), and now that she’s rolling with Paris Hilton, and has gotten married, it’s true, it’s gotten difficult to carry on the torch of the slightly toung-in-cheek Avril fandom. But ohh man did it just ever get harder. I knew that the new album, “The Best Damn Thing” was gonna suck. And I also knew that I would most likely buy it the day it came out and love every minute of it. Then disaster struck. Total Titanic-and-the-iceberg type disaster. If you want to know what I mean then go over to Avril’s Myspace site and roll the “Girlfriend” video. Holy smoke. It’s so monstrously bad! But it’s worse than bad. Bad can be cool. Bad can be great! But this sucks! The marketing department over at Sony seems to be pitching Avril to high school girls now and wiped out that punk pop thing that she had going. “Girlfriend” would make more sense on her first album, not her third. She’s not in high school anymore anyway. Oh well. As Casey correctly put it “Oh, how the mediocre have fallen”. Thanks Case. You know, don’t tell anyone this, but I’m sure that I will still get “The Best Damn Thing” when it comes out, bring it home and roll it. Maybe it will rock. If so I might want my old tour shirt back. I’m not holding my breath though. Oops….oh no (!) ”Girlfriend” is stuck in my head.
