T. Writes to C. About the War Pt. 2 (part one is two posts below and got me into trouble...)

…. Then yesterday was the march - our emails about which got me into trouble. It was pretty much as I expected. I guess it was OK. My friend BP summed it up when she said it was more of a parade than a march. That changed my thinking. And you know - that's totally cool. We all need a good parade on a lovely spring Sunday that’s for certain. It was a parade full of marching bands, colorful costumes and heart. I'm really psyched on that. There were the usual lame announcers from the stage trying to get the crowd pumped up - "OK, are you guys ready to start marching and bring the troops home now?!?!?!? OK, we just have a few more speakers to go....Then we’re gonna stop the war!!"
But then march we did, but what do you know? This time it actually worked! Holy fuck! This time they heard us in Washington DC, closed up shop on the war, and the last of the troops got home just after dinner. Hooray! But wait...oh shoot, now we're all super fucked. Now the central Iraqi government has no power backing, and the police force has gone back to their sectarian alliances and formed militias. There is a power vacuum in the south of the country (since the British troops came home too) and that's turning violent and making Saudi Arabia edgy. Baghdad looks like a scene from the movie Children of Men and is burning with bodies everywhere. Turkey is moving troops into Kurdistan in the north with resistance fighting back with only a few weapons left over from the Soviet era. Iran is pouring troops into Lebanon and bullying Israel. CNN is reporting that Hezbollah is firing rockets into northern Israel again. Israel is responding by saying "All options are on the table to deal with Iran" and just sealed it's borders and if anybody as much as hiccups over there all hell is going to break loose. Iran is also speeding troops across the border with Iraq with an eye on moving into Baghdad. Russia is playing its cards and will align with "Any legitimate government to arise in the situation". The Democrats, as I type are voting on a non-binding resolution "supporting the rights of the Iraqi people". Whatever that means. Bush is holding a press conference stating that the "Growing dark cloud in the region is blowing in from the "Killing Fields" and outhouses of Iran". Whatever that means also.... Up in Afghanistan the Taliban are on the move again sweeping in across from the mountains in the east killing everyone and anyone even suspected of having "cooperated with the infidels whose boots defecated our soil". But wait! Hold the boat! In all of this mess Jesus actually did come back!! But, oh shoot. He got detained at the border due to his passport and papers being written in Aramaic, and then sent to a "secret facility" at a disused airfield in Poland. But wait again! Mohammed, not to be outdone, came back also! Holy shit! That’s crazy! But when he got here he was flat broke and had to take public transportation and just as he was coming in through the checkpoint someone blew his bus up.

So, what do we do C? The sign at the protest parade that summed it up best for me simply said "Nice War Ass-Brain". Yup, that about says it. I don't know if we can really pull the troops can we? Ass-brain man got us into this mess against people's wishes, sense of urgent necessity, and that weird feeling in the gut that said something wasn't right about it all. Something about this just wasn't adding up. Plus we knew the house of cards was built on lies anyway. But now that the baseball bat has been swung into the hornets nest what really should we do? I think what would work is a complete regime change here....there needs to be someone new in the number one spot who apologizes then goes over there to try and figure out what to do. There will be an election in a couple of years but a lot can happen during that time. I don't know. I find hope in the little things. In people and art and community and friendships and such. This big picture though. It's messy out there. Maybe there's something I'm not seeing. Some peaceful way that Iraq can go back to being three separate countries like it seems that it wants too - and those Taliban jackasses can be routed out, and Iran made friends with as most of it’s population is pro-west in some way or other, or at least were before four years ago. Then try and get Israel to stop being a dick to it's neighbors and maybe there might be an opening to work with. What was that? Oh, Darfur. What the hell are we gonna do. It's horrible out there.
