Ghosts of the city. I’m fascinated by these spray painted symbols that FEMA workers painted on the sides of houses in New Orleans. In the days after Katrina these Byzantine symbols became what Andrei Codrescu called the "new silent language of the city". Holding the stories of houses, neighborhoods, people, lives, migrations, agony, death, and life. “One dead in attic”.
