Some guy wrecked the bathroom at Imbibe. It must have happened after midnight when drunks were making their way home and people were out on the sidewalk looking distressed and making cell calls trying to figure out their scene. The john was fine before. Other than that the place survived a rocking goodbye to the old and hello to the new. Casey and band had the night and he invited a crew of us to launch a few songs before. Myself, Michael, Zak Borden, and Adam And Kris. A couple of songs each and then Casey. Ezra, Lewi, with Adam on bass. They rocked.
The TV in the bar was playing re-runs of various midnight hours cross the globe. Balloons hung from the ceiling, the tables were stocked with noise makers and beads. And the place was packed too.
Next morning at about ten I was wandering around in search of a coffee which proved a hard cup to come by. Casey and a crew had scored an open breakfast joint but I didn’t yet feel like driving. I walked to Genies but thee were 20 people out front. I walked to the coffee place that sells annoying Fiestaware around the corner but it was closed. I walked to Junior’s but it was dark. I ventured across Hawthorn to Tiny’s but it was closed as well. I started up Hawthorn with no coffee and no particular destination in mind. Casey found me walking past the funeral home. He pulled over and we headed off to Powel’s books where I finally greeted the new year’s morning with a rich steamy cup of coffee and cream. Case did the crossword and I read the front section on the New York Times. For lunch it was Tai food as all the breakfast places had mobs of people waiting out front. Spent the day quietly. Even watched a little football.
This morning is chilly and damp. Have loads to get done so I better get to it.
