...And Then In March We Built A Monster

Last weekend I blew down to Portland to catch up with friends, play a little St. Pat's Day set at Biddy McGraws (big props to Zak Borden and Jason Montgomery for sitting in on that one!!), and then that evening break it down at the Crystal Ballroom with KMRIA. And break it down we did. I think it may have been the best KMRIA yet. Although in all honesty the whole operation is always a bit blurry by the end of the night. And maybe even a little blurrier in the morning. The band was back to its original 7-piece line up, and this year was the third in a line of ever-bigger venues. Though the Wonder Ballroom last year offered less room, the crowd was perhaps a bit more pitched being squashed in there like sardines. Also St. Pat's was on a Saturday last year. Opting for a bigger venue, the band moved across the river to the Crystal Ballroom and the crowd felt perhaps slightly more diffused. It was a Monday also - but the place was good and full and the mosh pit in full swing. The band played a hefty 32 song set. It was hot. It was loud. It was drunken. It was the Pogues. It was KMRIA and it rocked. And it jumped, and it stumbled, and pogo'ed, and it danced, and it watched. I love this band. I am so glad that once or twice a year that my friends do this. It’s the greatest show ever.

Here are some fantastic shots of KMRIA in action at the Crystal
